Background
The word induction is synonymous with onboarding, it means the period of time when an employee joins a company. This is the critical time the employee experiences when becoming successful in their role.
Researching downfalls in the current onboarding process
These challenges will vary drastically based upon the organization and the tools they use. But some potential issues that I have seen in the onboarding process include the following:
Let's be more inclusive at the front door
Let's starting by providing a tool that lets those who are new be recognized.
Let's be inclusive to when employees are actually available to work. With the increase of remote work, more people are scattered globally. Lets figure out when those who contribute to projects are actually available so that they're included in the right conversations.

Putting culture-based employee groups first. As part of the first few steps, lets offer the employee the option to join groups that either are part of their own culture or the opportunity to become allies for others. This depends on the organization size, or if the organization offers these groups.
Let's connect new hires with their mentors from the beginning.
Everyone deserves to feel secure when they start, and what better way to achieve this by reassuring the new hire their manager or mentor is nearby? |
Once the new hire tells about who they are, let's provide a clean UI that makes it easy to achieve goals.
Clear action-based design with a radial indicator to show progress.
Clearly completed and to-do states combined with contacts to assist the new hire when they need help.
Expansion cards to elaborate on each step.
When a new hire completely executes a task, the done button returns them home.
The radial then completes a step, showing real time progress.
